Event Preview

All eyes will be on Royal Portrush this weekend, as the final major of the golf season is staged. The Open Championship is the most prestigious event on the schedule, and it is the only major to be held outside of the United States. For the third time, Portrush will host the event, with Shane Lowry coming out on top on the previous occasion in 2019.

The top of the betting is dominated by familiar names, as Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are both vying for a second major of the 2025 season. Scheffler has been ultra-consistent throughout the season, finishing in the top ten in each of the last eight events.

McIlroy also bounced back to form last weekend after taking an impressive T2 at the Scottish Open. This year’s Masters champion is as good as anyone else if at his best, and if in the running going into the final day, he could be hard to beat.

Jon Rahm is one of our top picks this weekend. A year ago, he turned his form around with an excellent showing at The Open. In Majors this season, his form has been reliable, finishing in the top ten in two of the three events.

As the defending champion at Portrush, Lowry will be a popular selection this weekend. His form throughout the year has been largely reliable, but it has dipped in the weeks leading up to The Open Championship this year.

The Open Championship Picks

The 2019 Open could present the form line worth following this weekend, meaning that we like the chances of Tommy Fleetwood to end his long wait for a major success.

The Englishman has been in strong form once again this season, with his standout result coming when taking T2 at the Travelers Championship. Overall this season, he has finished in the top ten on five occasions.
