Event Preview
Following the official confirmation of the teams that will compete for the Ryder Cup later this month, a number of the European team players will be in action at the K Club in Ireland for the Irish Open this week.
Rory McIlroy was a close second in the event last year, and the Masters champion will be a red-hot favorite to go one better in 2025. McIlroy comes into the event after recently finishing in a T23 at the Tour Championship. The Northern Irishman previously won the event in 2016.
Marco Penge could have interesting claims after impressing on the DP World Tour throughout the season. His consistency was maintained in the previous event after finishing T8 at the European Masters.
Shane Lowry was among the Captains’ picks for the Ryder Cup on Monday, and he will be aiming to build momentum in his home event this weekend. Lowry’s consistent form throughout the season continued at the Tour Championship after finishing ten-under to take a share of 13th.
Irish Open Picks
Tyrrell Hatton was among the automatic qualifiers for the Ryder Cup, despite playing on the LIV Tour this season. His form in the major events has been strong. Back at a course he knows well, he could be the value play at the prices available this weekend.
