Event Preview

The second event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is set for this weekend, as the top 50 players in the world compete across 7,366 yards at Caves Valley Golf Club. The BMW Championship has been a lucrative event on the PGA Tour since being introduced in 2007, with a purse of $20 million up for grabs.

Unsurprisingly, the betting for this weekend’s event is once again dominated by Scottie Scheffler. The top-ranked player in the world finished a shot off the lead at the St. Jude Championship last weekend, and his consistency on the Tour this term is impossible to dismiss. Scheffler’s best finish at the event saw him finish T2 in 2021.

A week off did little to harm Rory McIlroy’s standing in the FedEx Cup Playoff rankings, as he remains second overall. The Masters champion hasn’t been in action since finishing T7 at The Open, which maintained his consistent form on the Tour this year.

Tommy Fleetwood’s wait for a win on the PGA Tour continued last weekend, as he couldn’t land St. Jude Championship victory despite taking a one-shot advantage into the final round. Not for the first time, he caved under the pressure, and didn’t even make it into the playoff. But, he is unlikely to be far away once again this weekend.

Patrick Cantlay is a two-time winner of the BMW Championship, and everything suggests that he will put up a strong challenge this weekend. His record in the Signature Events is extremely strong, finishing in the top 15 on six occasions.

BMW Championship Picks

Plenty have leading chances this weekend, but a chance could be taken on Ludvig Aberg. The Swede looks back to somewhere near his peak following injury issues over the last two years, and his upward momentum was evident last weekend after finishing in an excellent T9.
