Event Preview

The European leg of the F1 schedule draws to its conclusion this weekend, as Monza hosts the prestigious Italian Grand Prix. Traditionally regarded as the home race of Ferrari, a passionate sea of red will dominate the grandstands on Sunday, as the field compete across 190.596 miles.

However, the Scuderia will need to respond following a disastrous Dutch Grand Prix last Sunday. Both Leclerc and Hamilton recorded DNFs, putting huge pressure on performance once again this Sunday when the lights will shine brightest.

Reliability was also a hot topic in the McLaren garage following the Dutch Grand Prix, as Lando Norris’ championship dreams were dealt a potentially fatal blow after an engine issue saw him drop from second to last. That hands the huge advantage to Oscar Piastri in the championship battle, with the Australian dominating throughout the race in the Netherlands on Sunday.

The win means that Piastri now sits 34 points clear at the top of the standings, with just nine races remaining. Max Verstappen enjoyed a decent enough home race by taking second. However, the story of the weekend was Isack Hadjar, who claimed a maiden podium for the Racing Bulls after holding off the challenges posed by George Russell.

Italian Grand Prix Picks

All the pressure will be on Ferrari this weekend, but they don’t appear to have the pace to trouble the McLarens at the top of the order. Another step toward a maiden World Championship could be taken by Piastri this weekend, as he chases a third win in four races.
