Event Preview

The Hungarian Grand Prix forms the 14th race on the 2025 F1 schedule, and it will be the final race before the summer break. It comes at a crucial stage in the championship battle, as Lando Norris fell 16 points behind Oscar Piastri in the race for the Drivers’ title in Belgium last weekend.

Piastri was the outstanding driver in the race, as he made his medium compound tires last until the end of the race after importantly overtaking his teammate on the first lap. Norris ultimately only had himself to blame, as three costly errors ensured that he wasn’t able to cut away at Piastri’s lead out front.

That is ultimately the difference between the drivers; Norris is erratic and struggles to control his emotions, while Piastri is almost robotic at the wheel with minimal errors committed throughout the season.

Ferrari seized second in the Constructors’ Championship in Belgium, as Charles Leclerc comfortably held off a charging Max Verstappen to achieve a podium finish. Lewis Hamilton also recovered well from 18th on the grid to finish seventh.

A first weekend in the post-Christian Horner era at Red Bull saw Max Verstappen claim success in the Sprint Race, but he ran fourth for much of the Grand Prix. Pressure will be increasing on Kimi Antonelli in Belgium, as the young Italian failed to score points for the sixth race in seven for Mercedes.

Huge questions will also surround the long-term future of Franco Colapinto, with Alpine already reportedly lining up Jack Doohan to replace the driver following the summer break. Pierre Gasly was one of the stars of the day in Belgium, as he achieved a points finish. Meanwhile, the battle in the middle order to heating up, with Alex Albon taking sixth to extend Williams’ advantage in fifth in the Constructors’ standings.

Hungarian Grand Prix Picks

McLaren once again look set to be the dominant team in Hungary this weekend, and a repeat one-two finish from last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix could be likely. We like the chances of Piastri to win the race, with Norris taking second and potentially a first podium finish for Ferrari for Lewis Hamilton.
