Event Preview
After a break in the Formula 1 action, the racing moves back to Europe on Sunday, as the Red Bull Ring hosts the Austrian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen has been the dominant driver in the history of the race, winning on four previous occasions. However, the Dutchman looked off the pace in Canada a few weeks ago.
McLaren had a weekend to forget in Canada, with Oscar Piastri finishing the best of the two drivers in fourth. Their lack of pace was alarming, especially considering the dominance that they had enjoyed prior to the weekend in Montreal.
It was also the first time this season that the McLaren drivers collided, with Norris falling out of the points after going into the back of Piastri.
McLaren’s pain was Mercedes’ gain, as George Russell claimed a first race win of 2025. There was also further success, as Kimi Antonelli scored a first podium in his rookie season.
Ferrari once again struggled to compete with the leading pack, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing in fifth and sixth, respectively. However, further upgrades could unlock progress in Austria.
Austrian Grand Prix Picks
McLaren’s misery in Canada was compounded after Norris and Piastri collided.
However, after a few weeks to recover, the team could get back on track in Austria. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them score a one-two finish, with Piastri scoring the victory.
