Event Preview
After a three-week break, the Formula 1 action finally resumes in Europe on July 27, 2025. The Belgian Grand Prix has been on the calendar since 1925, and it has been renowned for typically wet conditions that drivers have needed to navigate. This weekend’s race forms the 13th leg of the Championship, and it comes at a pivotal stage in the race for the Drivers’ title.
McLaren’s dominance on track continued at Silverstone after winning the British Grand Prix with Lando Norris. The victory saw the Brit cut teammate Oscar Piastri’s advantage at the summit to just eight points. However, Piastri was left frustrated after dominating the race before being given a ten-second penalty, which effectively handed the lead and race win to Norris.
But, the biggest story of the day at Silverstone came in the form of a shock podium for Nico Hulkenberg. The German’s tactical know-how ensured that he gained track position, and he fought off Lewis Hamilton excellently to take a maiden podium.
Ferrari appeared to lack the pace in the second half of the race, with Hamilton taking fourth place for the second race running. Charles Leclerc could only finish down in 14th after a frustrating day strategically for the Monegasque.
George Russell also followed a similar strategy, taking tenth for Mercedes. Max Verstappen has ruled himself out of the title picture after taking fifth at Silverstone, but the Red Bull still has excellent pace in qualifying, which means that he will be a threat in Belgium.
Belgian Grand Prix Picks
Unpredictable weather conditions could make for a must-see Belgian Grand Prix at the end of July.
But, McLaren have been excellent throughout the season with their strategic calls, and that means that they should have the know-how to get the win.
However, it could be the turn of Piastri to fight back in the championship battle after taking seconds in each of the last two races behind his teammate.
