Event Preview
The high octane action on the Formula 1 schedule resumes this weekend, as the streets of Baku form the backdrop for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. This weekend’s race is the 17th stop on the F1 calendar for 2025, and the championship battle only promises to heat up further with the pressure on Norris and Piastri ramping up.
Unexpectedly, the Italian Grand Prix was a rare low point for McLaren, as the team lacked the pace to get anywhere near the imperious Max Verstappen. However, the constructor caused confusion after Norris’ slow stop before giving team orders for Piastri to allow his teammate to overtake.
That could yet prove crucial at the end of the campaign, despite the Australian still holding a 31-point advantage over his teammate. Piastri’s consistency deserves special attention, as he has finished in the top three in each of the last six races.
Verstappen was back to his very best in Italy, and he didn’t see a rival after overtaking Norris for the lead of the race. Ferrari enjoyed a productive home race, with Leclerc taking fourth and Hamilton finishing sixth. However, it’s unlikely that they will have the race pace to ask many questions on the street circuit this Sunday.
Azerbaijan Grand Prix Picks
The McLaren has looked comfortable on street circuits already this season, and that bodes well for their chances this weekend. Qualifying will be crucial in determining the likeliest winner this Sunday, and a chance could be taken on Norris to reignite his championship bid.
