Fight Preview
A fascinating contest is set for New York in mid-June, as George Kambosos Jr returns to the sight of his best career moment when he comes up against the progressive Richardson Hitchins.
Kambosos’ form has dipped since shocking the world in the Manhattan venue back in 2021 after overcoming Teofimo Lopez. That win saw him capture the WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring Lightweight titles. However, he would soon drop the belts after successive losses against Devin Haney.
Since those back-to-back losses, a further career setback was inflicted in May 2024 after suffering a TKO loss against Vasily Lomachenko. But, he did get back on track earlier this year when comfortably seeing off Jake Wyllie in his home nation of Australia.
It could be argued that Hitchins has the most to lose in New York, as the aspiring American bids for a notable scalp in his home city. The American has won all 19 of his professional fights to date, with 12 of his wins coming via decision.
Hitchins has retained his confidence throughout the build-up, and he looks to put the fighters at 140lb on notice with a statement win. The 27-year-old has already shown that he has what it takes when the lights shine brightest after overcoming Liam Paro to win the IBF light-welterweight title in December. But, it is easy to argue that this is a significant step up in opposition.
Richardson Hitchins vs. George Kambosos Picks
This is a fascinating showdown in New York, and it will offer an insight into how high Hitchins’ ceiling is.
Kambosos has competed against some of the very best boxers on the planet, and a win for Hitchins would put him in pole position for a world title showdown later this year. We don’t expect his route to the top to be blocked in the Big Apple in mid-June.
