The Men’s Curling event will get underway at the Winter Olympics on Feb 12, and Sweden will be the defending champions. The nation is likely to be competitive once again this year, and it has won the World Championship gold medal in three of the last five years.

However, Great Britain could be the obvious play. The team will feature a large selection of Scottish players, which could be key after Scotland landed World Championship success last year. Scotland have been the recent dominant force on the men’s schedule, winning two of the last three gold medals at the World Championships.

The gold medal in the women’s curling will be one of the final medals that is handed out at this winter’s event. Great Britain were the shock winners of the gold medal four years ago, but there is a sense that the team is in a transitional period.

Sweden have largely been competitive at the Winter Olympics, winning at least a bronze medal in the women’s curling in six of the last seven events. However, Canada looks like the standout chance. Canada have won two golds in the event since 1998, and they have emphatically won the top prize in each of the last two editions of the World Championships.
