Event Preview
The Sprint Races have been an exciting addition to the F1 schedule, and they could prove crucial in determining the Drivers’ Championship winner in 2025. As is typically the case, the Sprint Race will cover half of the distance of the Grand Prix, with the field being made up by the results in the Sprint Shootout on Friday afternoon.
Just one point separates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, with the former jumping ahead of their teammate following success in the Mexican Grand Prix a few weeks ago. The pressure will now be on Piastri to reply, but his chances could be enhanced based on the fact that he will be back on a track that suits his driving style.
However, the menacing presence of Max Verstappen remains a looming danger to the McLaren teammates. The Dutchman’s red-hot end to the season means that he is within striking distance, and wins in both races this weekend could hand the reigning world champion the upper-hand.
Ferrari will also be hoping for a positive weekend after jumping ahead of Mercedes in the battle for second in the Constructors’ Championship. Charles Leclerc has achieved podium finishes in each of the last two races, while Lewis Hamilton’s brightest moment for the team so far was achieved in the Sprint format in China.
São Paulo Sprint Race Picks
No driver can boast a better record in Sprint Races than Verstappen, and his aggressive style of racing could be perfectly suited to the challenge at hand this weekend. We could foresee the Championship fight catching fire with the Dutchman winning both races at Interlagos.
