Race Preview

The world’s most prestigious turf race is set for Longchamp this weekend, as the 2025 edition of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is set for October 5. A stamina-sapping mile and four furlongs will stand in between runners and their place in history, and plenty of realistic chances of success this Sunday.

Aidan O’Brien hasn’t won the Arc since 2016, but he holds a serious challenger this year in the form of Minnie Hauk. The three-year-old filly won the British and Irish Oaks, before showing class at York last time when landing the G1 Yorkshire Oaks by a commanding three-length margin.

Japan have constantly set their sights on Arc glory, and they have a couple of very interesting contenders in 2025, namely Croix Du Nord and Byzantine Dream. The latter already has winning experience over course and distance, but connections may be hoping for minimal rain fall between now and Sunday.

Aventure is a filly with plenty of upside after finishing an excellent second in the Arc last year. The four-year-old was held by the talented Calandagan in late June, before enjoying a stiffer test back at Longchamp when getting the better of Gezora over course and distance.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Picks

A wide-open renewal of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe ensures that plenty of runners have leading claims. I’m a huge fan of Sosie, despite the runner finishing behind Byzantine Dream last time out.

Softer ground suits his chances, and everything suggests that connections have been building for success in this race this year. Gezora is another I like at a bigger price.

Like Sosie, the lightly-raced three-year-old is better on a softer surface, and she could still be improving, which indicates that she should be capable of reversing the form of her one-length defeat to Aventure last time out.
