Two NL East combatants will see each other for the first time this season when the Phillies (25-28) visit the Mets (27-27) to kick off a three game series on Tuesday. Both teams come into the week off of losses, with Philadelphia splitting a 4-game set at Atlanta over the weekend while New York had a disappointing rip to Coors Field losing two of three to the Rockies.

Before Betting on Phillies vs Mets

You have to obviously take location into account a bit, but New York pitching has struggled the last two games in the Colorado atmosphere falling 10-7 and 11-10 to the Rockies. Philadelphia has one of the most potent lineups in MLB – on paper at least – so maybe the way to play Tuesday’s series opener is on the total going over.

The Mets burned up Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander this past weekend in Colorado and still couldn’t pick up a series win against one of the worst teams in the N.L. That leaves the back of the rotation to fend for themselves against the Phillies this week with Kodai Senga (4-3, 3.94 ERA) getting the nod on Tuesday. Senga has had some rough road starts this month, but has a 1.57 ERA in four starts at Citi Field in 2023.

The Phillies go with Ranger Suarez (0-1, 9.82 ERA) in their first meeting with the Mets this season. The left-hander is making just his fourth start of the season in this game and things haven’t gone well as he’s allowed 9ER over his last 7.0 IP.

Phillies vs Mets Prediction & Pick

Maybe you can take the over 8.5, but it’s a stretch to bet on Philadelphia with Suarez on the bump. Senga has had his issues for the Mets as well – and New York definitely struggled over the weekend in Colorado – but the Phillies are a fade here.

Pick: Mets RL -1.5
