Event Preview

The festive period means that all eyes will be on Alexandra Palace, as the PDC Darts World Championship gets underway. A packed and boisterous crowd will be in attendance throughout the event, as a lucrative purse of £5 million will make it the richest renewal of the event in history.

Luke Littler has continued to progress, and he will be a short price favorite to win a second edition of the World Championship. Littler arrived on the scene in 2024 when reaching the final, before he overpowered Michael van Gerwen to win a first title in 2025. His progress has seen him rise to world number one for the first time, and his form remains very eye-catching after winning the recent Grand Slam.

Luke Humphries is also a one-time winner of the event after overcoming Littler in 2024. Cool Hand Luke has remained one of the most consistent players on the tour, winning all but three of the PDC Premier events. This year, he landed success in the Masters for the first time, and is an outstanding chance to go deep at Ally Pally.

Michael van Gerwen isn’t the force of old, but he still cruised through to the final last year before losing to Littler. The Dutchman has now reached the final on seven of his 18 appearances, but his most recent of three victories was achieved back in 2019.

Littler will be an incredibly short price to retain his World Championship crown. However, an interesting alternative could be the consistent Humphries. The 30-year-old was the winner of the event in 2024, and he could provide better value at the current odds based on his performances in the major events.
