Event Preview
Co-sanctioned action on the European and Asian Tours is set for the final weekend before Christmas, as the Mauritius Open will be staged at Mont Choisy Le Golf. This event has been staged annually since 2015, and the field will be competing for their share of the $1.5 million purse in the stroke play event.
John Parry is the defending champion after storming to success last year. The Englishman has been in reliable form in the second half of the season, and was most recently in action finishing T7 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship last weekend.
Jayden Schaper was the winner of that event last weekend, and he will be a short-price favorite to back up the success this weekend. The South African has been in excellent form throughout December, as he also finished T2 at the NedBank Golf Challenge at the start of the month.
Angel Ayora is consistently considered to be one of the brightest golfing talents. The 21-year-old endured a challenging weekend in South Africa last time out, finishing T46 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
But, the Spaniard has continued to catch the eye this season, and looks like a potential winner in waiting based on his previous results.
Mauritius Open Picks
Jacob Skov Olesen could be a value play at the odds this weekend. The Danish player has enjoyed an excellent rookie season on the DP World Tour, finishing in the top 25 on eleven occasions and achieving six top-ten finishes. He was ninth in this event 12 months ago, and another eye-catching challenge is likely this weekend.
