Eye-catching action is set for Texas at the start of December, as Lamont Roach steps up in weight to challenge for the interim WBC Junior Welterweight title. Roach had been expected to step back in the ring with Gervonta Davis following the controversial draw between the stars in March, but negotiations between the camps broke down.

Roach has been in dominant form since his points loss against Jamel Herring in November 2019, winning six successive bouts before his draw with Davis earlier this year. Despite this being a championship bout in its own right, the main goal for Roach will be to get the win in December before turning his attentions back to Davis.

Isaac Cruz deserves respect in his own right. The Mexican 27-year-old has won 28 of his 32 professional bouts, and he has a proven record at the highest level. He was previously the WBA Super Lightweight champion before losing against Jose Valenzuela in August 2024.

Since then, he has returned to winning ways, most recently landing the interim WBC Super Lightweight title against Omar Salcido. Cruz will be capable of throwing down a major challenge to Roach, and he has form that mixes in with Davis after being edged out in a points loss against his rival in 2021. He could yet have intentions himself of avenging that defeat against Tank.

Major boxing action is set for Texas at the start of December, and a tactical bout could go the way of Roach. Cruz’s unpredictable nature of throwing shots will be a concern for Roach, but the American looks to have the skill required to dictate the pace of the fight and claim the points win.
