  • The Giants lost their first game under interim head coach Mike Kafka on Sunday.
  • With Daboll gone, Kafka is not expected to remain as the head coach next season.

With Daboll gone and Kafka’s interim tenure off to a rocky start, it’s almost certain that the Giants will upgrade during the offseason. Rumblings about a return to the NFL for Bill Belichick lead the headlines.

Giants Next Coach Prediction

A lot of notable names are being discussed for the Giants. Looking at the ten top candidates, I’d immediately rule out keeping Mike Kafka (+900) and going after Robert Saleh (+1400), as the New York media and fanbases would likely be livid with either.

Moving on to more realistic options, Antonio Pierce (+1400) is a name that fans would recognize and love, but he doesn’t have the same experience as some of the other candidates. Klint Kubiak (+850) and Lou Anarumo (+950) would represent younger, fresh faces for the Giants, and the latter has some experience within the organization. They’d be taking a risk with a first-time head coach, though.

Kliff Kingsbury (+1000) also fits that younger coach role, bringing the potential for a much more consistent west coast offense to New York. On the other hand, his lack of success in Arizona with Kyler Murray raises some concerns. Similar concerns exist for veteran coaches Mike McCarthy (+700), the current odds-on favorite, and Jon Gruden (+800).

If the Giants choose to avoid a coach that was recently ousted, they could attempt to talk current North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick (+750) into a return to the NFL. While Belichick hasn’t seen major success with the Tar Heels yet, he remains the second winningest coach in NFL history, something much needed in New York right now.

One of the most underrated options is Joe Brady (+1000). Brady, as well as Ohio State coordinator Brian Hartline, have often been brought up for potential NFL head coaching gigs. If the Giants opt for a less defensive-minded coach and one suited to help Jaxson Dart become a Pro Bowler, Brady and Hartline are appealing options. They’re responsible for much of the WR boon at LSU and Ohio State, respectively.

Brady is better positioned to take on a head coaching role than Hartline, having already made the jump to NFL coordinator. Not only that, but his connections to Schoen and the Bills make him a likely Giants target. With 10-to-1 odds, you could do worse than betting on the Giants to snag more personnel from Buffalo, though some fans may see hiring another Bills coordinator as a lateral move following Daboll’s departure.
