Event Preview
A competitive edition of the Genesis Invitational is set for California this weekend, with the world’s best players competing across 7,802 yards at Riviera Country Club to win a share of the $20 million purse.
Scottie Scheffler will once again be the red-hot favorite for success. The American showed his class to battle back from a slow start last weekend, taking a share of fourth. The world number one’s ability to consistently finish in the top five ensures that he won’t be far away.
It was a welcome return to winning ways for Collin Morikawa last weekend, and he could be a strong chance to maintain that level of form, having previously finished as the runner-up at the Genesis Open in 2022.
Tommy Fleetwood also bounced back to his best last weekend, taking a share of fourth. The Englishman finished T10 at the Genesis Open in 2024, and he has finished in the top-ten on four occasions since being crowned FedEx Cup champion.
Hideki Matsuyama should also be respected as the most recent winner of the event at its home this weekend. The Japanese star has finished in the top eleven on five occasions at the course, and his recent form suggests that he will go close once again.
Genesis Invitational Picks
Patrick Cantlay is of serious interest this weekend. He finished T14 last weekend, showing his best performance on the closing day. His record at Riviera is very impressive, finishing in the top four on three occasions, which includes finishing in the top-three on his last two starts. At the odds, he presents value.
