Event Preview

The events on the ‘West Coast Swing’ on the PGA Tour come thick and fast at this stage of the season. This weekend, a lucrative purse of $9.3 million will be up fro grabs at the Farmers Insurance Open, with the field competing across a distance of 7,765 yards on the South Course.

Brooks Koepka will make a lot of the headlines ahead of the start of the event, as the American makes his return to the PGA Tour after leaving LIV Golf. His performance levels have dropped since joining the Saudi-backed tour, but he is a five-time major winner, and could be dangerous if back on song.

Xander Schauffele will be a likely favorite for the event this weekend. The Californian native missed out on playing 12 months ago, but his consistency at the end of last season makes him a solid chance on return after finishing in the top ten on three of his last five events.

Ryan Gerard is a player that we flagged up last weekend, and he could be a lively contender once again after finishing T2 at the American Express. The talented American has finished as the runner-up on his last three starts, and has course form in the book after finishing T15 12 months ago.

Hideki Matsuyama is also worth considering this week. The Japanese star has shown excellent form so far this season, having already won the Hero World Challenge.  Has continued that progress with a T13 at the Sony Open. At this event, he has finished in the top 20 on five previous occasions.

Farmers Insurance Open Picks

Australian player Jason Day is a standout chance this weekend. Day finished T2 at the American Express last weekend, extending his very impressive record on the West Coast Swing. Has solid course form in the book, including two wins, and two top three finishes.
