Group E at EURO 2024 could be one of the most open when it comes to the race to secure second spot in the standings. However, it looks incredibly challenging to overlook Belgium topping the group, which also includes Slovakia, Romania, and the winner of Playoff B.

It could be argued that this year’s tournament will be the final opportunity for Belgium’s Golden Generation to win a major title. Their best performance at a tournament to this point was their third-place finish at the World Cup in 2018. The nation have been consistent at the EUROs in each of the last two editions, but they have failed to make it past the quarterfinal stage. But, once again Belgium qualified having avoided defeat in all matches.
Slovakia will be the outsiders to progress as group winners, having managed to make it out of the group stage at the EUROs on just one occasion in their history. In the previous edition of the tournament they were eliminated in the opening round after winning just once in three matches. But, they qualified well after winning seven of their ten matches.
Romania will be making their return to the EUROs after missing out on a spot in the tournament in 2020. However, they haven’t managed to make it out of the group stage since reaching the quarterfinals in 2000. Romania did look fairly impressive in qualifying after winning six of their ten matches.
There is an open feel to the playoff path to join Group E, with Bosnia, Israel, Iceland, and Ukraine all vying for the final spot. The latter could stand the best chance after fighting Italy to the final day in qualifying before having to settle for third spot.
