Event Preview
Competitive action is set for the DP World Tour this weekend, as the lucrative Dubai Desert Classic is staged at the Emirates Golf Club. This weekend’s event covers a total of 7,428 yards, and the field will be competing for their share of the $9 million purse.
After missing last weekend’s first event of 2026, Tyrrell Hatton will be back to defend the title that he won in 2025. The Ryder Cup-winning star was an impressive winner of the event last year, as he held off Daniel Hillier to win by a single shot.
However, Rory McIlroy could be the outstanding chance based on previous performances. The Northern Irishman is a four-time winner of the Dubai Desert Classic, and his return last time out was eye-catching after finishing in T3 and within two shots of the lead.
Shane Lowry will be hoping to put last weekend’s disappointment behind him. The Irishman squandered his advantage at the top of the leaderboard to eventually finish T3. In the final round, he went -2, which saw him drop out of the top two spots.
Dubai Desert Classic Picks
Daniel Hillier could be an interesting selection against the favorite. The Australian player has started the season in reliable form, shooting -6 in the final round to take second in the Dubai Invitational last time out. Hillier performs well at this course, evident after finishing as the runner-up 12 months ago.
