Event Preview
The season-ending European Tour event is set for Dubai across the coming weekend, as the Earth Course hosts the most lucrative event in the DP World Tour. The DP World Tour Championship has been staged since 2009, and Rory McIlroy will be a hot favorite to win the event for a fourth time.
McIlroy is in pole position to top the Race to Dubai rankings for the seventh time, having achieved the feat in each of the last four seasons. The Northern Irishman maintained his advantage at the top of the standings after finishing T3 in the HSBC Championship last weekend.
Only two players are in a position to stop McIlroy’s bid for history. Marco Penge currently sits second, but he will need the current leader to finish outside of the first two. Furthermore, he will need to finish in a three-way tie for second to stand any chance of finishing ahead of McIlroy.
Tyrrell Hatton also has a fighting chance, but his prospects are slimmer. The top 50 ranked players in the standings will be in action this weekend, including Ryder Cup winners Ludvig Aberg, Shane Lowry, and Tommy Fleetwood. The latter has been in red-hot form throughout the year and was narrowly denied success in a playoff last weekend.
DP World Tour Championship Picks
McIlroy looks like the standout selection to win the Race to Dubai and be crowned Europe’s best golfer for the seventh time. However, Nicolai Hojgaard could be the interesting betting angle.
The Danish player won the event in 2024, and he arrives into the weekend in excellent form after finishing a shot off the lead in the Abu Dhabi Championship last weekend.
