Before Betting on Dodgers vs Giants Aug 1

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants duked it out last summer, with SF finishing a game ahead in the NL West as the two teams had the best record in baseball. L.A. is continuing their success in 2022 with a 68-33 mark, but the Giants may find themselves as sellers for Tuesday’s trade deadline as they are 17.5 back in the division.

Of course a good week at home against the Dodgers could change San Francisco’s tune. The Giants just took three of four from a red hot Cubs team and SF is only four games back from the final wild card spot. The big problem is that San Francisco has gone 3-6 head to head against Los Angeles so far this season.

Andrew Heaney (1-0, 0.47 ERA) will make his second start since returning from another trip to the IL. He didn’t pitch long on July 27th (4.0 IP) but he was effective in giving up just 1 hit (but with 3 BBs) in a 7-1 win over Washington. Heaney has had two stints on the IL this season and has only made four starts.

With 11-1 Tyler Anderson and then 10-6 Julio Urias up in the rotation for the Dodgers on Tuesday and Wednesday, Monday’s matchup with Heaney is going to be the Giants best chance at a win this series. That means Logan Webb (9-4, 2.91 ERA) also needs to be sharp on the mound for San Francisco. Webb allowed 4 ER in his first start back from the All-Star break, after allowing that many total in his previous four starts.

The Giants best chance to get a win this series is in the opener and they are 6-1 in their last 7 home games. Of course the Dodgers are also 7-1 in their last 8 on the road so they have some value here, but Heaney still can’t be trusted especially after posting a 7.32 ERA last season with the Yankees.
