Race Preview

A compelling weekend of horse racing action gets underway at Keeneland on Friday, with a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies up for grabs in the G1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes. This weekend’s race is for fillies aged two, and a distance of 1 1/16 miles will be covered.

Tommy Jo will be the runner to beat for the Todd Pletcher yard. The two-year-old filly has been extremely exciting on her two career starts to date, and was electric over seven furlongs when beating the re-opposing Percy’s Bar by six lengths in the G1 Spinaway Stakes. Hard to oppose her chances.

Percy’s Bar will once again be the main danger this weekend. Ben Colebrook’s runner was left with far too much to do in the Spinaway after being held up in the rear for the first half of the race. Will need to be closer to Tommy Jo to reverse the form, but she is well-bred for this kind of distance.

Haute Diva is one of the more interesting runners on this step up in grade. The Patrick Biancone-trained runner was a winner last time out, but she was well-beaten on her effort at Gulfstream Park in August. A wide draw may not be ideal.

Kenneth McPeek’s two-year-old’s are always interesting, and Irad Ortiz is a notable booking on Go To Girl this weekend. The daughter of Knicks Go should thrive over this distance, and was a winner on her latest effort.

Darley Alcibiades Stakes Picks

This year’s renewal of the Darley Alcibiades Stakes is unlikely to shake up the betting for the Juvenile Fillies too drastically. Tommy Jo ticks all of the boxes, and the two-year-old could be potentially very smart. She could lead home the field, with Percy’s Bar taking second to confirm the Spinaway form.
