Gonzaga (20-5) got some help this week when first place St. Mary’s suffered an upset loss to Loyola Marymount. The Gaels had controlled their own destiny to snap the Bulldogs’ streak of 10-straight WCC titles, but now things are a lot tighter in the conference. BYU (16-11) hopes to serve up an underdog victory of their own, or at least cover the dozen-plus point spread for a moral victory.

Before Betting on BYU vs Gonzaga

It’s really an homage to their past success that Gonzaga is considered to be having a down year even though they are 9-2 in WCC play. Plus those losses were 68-67 to Loyola Marymount and 78-70 in OT at St. Mary’s so if the ball bounces the other way a couple times we are still looking at this Bulldogs team as their usual dominant selves.

Gonzaga was able to bounce back from their St. Mary’s loss last Saturday by beating on San Francisco 99-81 on Thursday night behind 23 from Rasir Bolton and another 21 from Drew Timme. Bolton has only scored 20+ points three times this season, twice against San Francisco. Timme has now scored 20+ in back to back games.

BYU has to have at least a little confidence coming into this game as they battled to a 75-74 loss at home to Gonzaga last month. The Bulldogs are big favorites here, but their 68-67 loss to Loyola Marymount on January 19th also came as -18.5 favorites.

BYU vs Gonzaga Prediction & Pick

BYU likely won’t pull off the upset win here, but this is a Gonzaga team that can’t quite be trusted yet to cover a 13 point spread. Maybe the Bulldogs start showing signs of getting into their postseason groove, but until then that’s too many points.

Pick: BYU +13
