Race Preview

Some of the biggest stars from across the world will be represented in the Breeders’ Cup Turf in 2025. Aidan O’Brien-trained Minnie Hauk is the current market leader, as the filly bid to go one better than she did when a close second in the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Minnie Hauk’s record this season has been staggering, winning five of his seven career starts, and landing four graded honors. Among her wins include successes in the G1 Epsom Oaks and G1 Irish Oaks. However, this is a quick turnaround following a gruelling race at Longchamp.

Rebel’s Romance will be aiming to become the first three-time winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar. The Charlie Appleby runner has been a dominant force in the U.S., and he should be tuned up for this date with destiny after landing the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic.

Godolphin and Appleby will have two runners in the Turf, with El Cordobes also set to take his chance. The improving four-year-old was a winner at Saratoga in early August, before a questionable ride limited his chances when third behind Rebel’s Romance last time out.

Wimbledon Hawkeye also has American form in the book after landing the G3 Nashville Derby. However, he was well-beaten by El Cordobes earlier in the campaign. Goliath is also a fascinating European runner from France after scoring on quick ground in Group One company in Germany on his latest start.

Willie Mullins, typically associated with jumps racing, also has an eye-catching chance in the form of Ethical Diamond. The five-year-old has already shown his excellent ability on good to firm ground on two occasions, landing big purses in the forms of the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes and Ebor Handicap.

Breeders’ Cup Turf Picks

I’m fairly happy to take on the top two in the Turf betting, as the Arc could leave a mark on Minnie Hauk, and Rebel’s Romance isn’t getting any younger. El Cordobes could be a notable angle after already winning on U.S. soil this term. Ethical Diamond is another I’d be interested in for Exotics.

However, Amiloc could be massively over-priced for the Ralph Beckett team. The three-year-old looked very classy earlier this season when landing Group Two honors at Royal Ascot.

Was beaten four lengths by Melbourne Cup favorite Al Riffa over a mile and six in the G1 Irish St Leger last time, but this drop back to a mile and four puts her well in the mix. A staggering 20 of the last 26 winners have been deep closers, and that should favor Amiloc, who boasts more stamina than most in this field.
