Event Preview
The action on the DP World Tour moves onto Bahrain this weekend, as the Royal Golf Club will see players compete across 7,302 yards to win their share of the $2.5 million purse. Laurie Canter won the second edition of the event in 2025, beating Dan Brown and Pablo Larrazabal in a gripping playoff.
South African player Jayden Schaper will be a likely contender this weekend. The improving 24-year-old showed excellent ability at the Dubai Desert Classic last time out, eventually finishing T4 after shooting eight-under. His consistency ensures that he is a deserving favorite.
I’m a big fan of 21-year-old Angel Ayora, and the Spanish star will get a win on the board at this level soon. He was arguably too safe in the opening rounds of the Dubai Desert Classic last time out, but he showed his class to shoot three-under in the final round to take T26. A quicker start will put him in contention.
Experienced players Sergio Garcia and Patrick Reed will both hold interesting claims this weekend. The latter should be full of confidence following a dominant win in the Dubai Desert Classic last time out. At a bigger price, Jorge Campillo could outperform his odds after making the cut on his last nine starts.
Bahrain Championship Picks
Cases can be made for many players this weekend. However, we like the chances of Andy Sullivan. The Englishman performed excellently to finish within four shots of Reed last weekend, while the 38-year-old has now finished in the top ten on two of his last three starts this season.
