Notre Dame snubbed from CFP
Earlier in the week, the College Football Playoff field was decided upon. Despite both Miami and Notre Dame not playing a game last week, Miami jumped Notre Dame in the standings, claiming the last at-large CFP spot. While some may point to Miami's head-to-head win over Notre Dame as a solid reason to choose the Hurricanes, the committee had already ranked Miami ahead in the previous week. It's very odd to see their methodology flip out of nowhere. Had Virginia beaten Duke and gotten the ACC an automatic bid, would Miami still have made it over Notre Dame? Now, the Irish are fighting for an unfair advantage in future seasons to make up for it. The CFP might need a whole new rankings system. Leaving it up to a biased committee of mostly school ADs is not working for anyone.
My wife is a "huge" Notre Dame fan, and I told her beforehand that the scenario would probably unfold the way that it did. I guess Miami supposedly performed better against similar opponents as well.
I've heard the field may be expanded to 12 teams. That "may" resolve what happened this year, but I'm sure there will be some deserving teams left out in that scenario as well.
I think it's unfortunately headed in the direction of a purely SEC/Big-10 playoffs and separate smaller bowl games for everyone else
