WNBA Agrees to CBA Deadline Extension
As the WNBA continues to stay firm on their unappealing offer for a new CBA deal, they've agree to extend the deadline for an additional month beyond the original October 31 cutoff. Which of the following do you see happening on November 30:
- The WNBA and players agree to terms on a new CBA
- Terms are not agreed upon, but another extension is granted
- Terms are not agreed upon and no extra extension is added, league enters a lockout
Meanwhile, expansion franchises the Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire wait in limbo for expansion draft details.
As much as I'd like to be positive, I think a lockout may be imminent.
WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike signing with a foreign league certainly doesn't bode well.
I agree. Once a major star goes in one direction, it potentially has a domino effect.
@jdtillman Alyssa Thomas and Jonquel Jones have now joined her. So far it's only 30+ y/o players but still not great at all for the WNBA's outlook. It's hard for me to imagine what the owners are thinking by not agreeing to the WNBPA's demands. They stand to lose WAY more money if the league collapses than whatever marginal amount they'd give up by acceding to the demands.
It would be a shame if the sides did not reach an agreement, given that the level of popularity has never been higher.
They extended it another 40 days which is good news I think, but the league's recent offers are so bad I can't imagine anything getting done anytime soon.
