NBA coaches are better off doing 41-41 every year.

I've been waiting for this thread. Why would you fire a coach that guided a team to its first ECF appearance in 25 years?

Absolutely horrendous decision. I had my criticisms of Thibodeau but he fully turned the Knicks around. Leon Rose is to blame for trading too much for the overrated OG Anunoby if anything. Hard to imagine the Knicks making the postseason 4 of the next 5 years again with a new coach in the mix.

I’m waiting for the leaks (smears) in the coming days to justify it.

And why does Leon Rose get away with never talking to the media? Every other sports league would force the head of ops to speak.

The very notion of hiring Rick Brunson…my god.

I remember when Thibs was coaching the Bulls and was treated eerily similar. He guided them to their first ECF in 13 years.

Not only that but those teams won 65 percent of its despite Derrick Rose missing significant time with multiple knee injuries.

Not sure what logic is behind in these scenarios.

@jdtillman It's very possible that his style has a shelf life. But no team he coached has gone from Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr (and that was circumstantial) or Buck Showalter or Joe Torre and started winning titles. Both of Thibs' teams got worse after he left.

Is Mike Brown and upgrade from Thibs? The difference here is that the Knicks starters will probably average less minutes than last season as Thibs is known to over work his players.

Less Minutes = Less Injuries?

@gkozlow Thibs has a shelf life. It's been that way everywhere he's been. Today's players get tired of the constant misery of what the coach thinks is gonna go wrong, even if they're right about it.

The team seemed to settle on Brown because it didn't know who else to hire. But he's won before.

Yeah makes sense, there werent too many head coaches out there and Brown has a semi proven record.

If my memory is correct Brown last coached in Sacramento right? But seems to have had a falling out with some players (De'aron Fox).

@gkozlow He’d had two winning seasons, but they were under .500 when he got axed.

Back in his days with the Bulls, I  know he played guys heavy minutes, due to Derrick Rose missing  a ton of games. No matter what anyone  says, he tends to get the maximum effort from his players.
