Solheim Cup Teams & Captains

The qualification to represent the teams is slightly different between Europe and the USA. European players must be part of the Ladies European Tour to earn qualifying spots, with the top eight automatic qualifiers securing their spots. Captains also have four selections to complete the line-up. Suzann Pettersen will be tasked with defending the Solheim Cup for Europe. At present, Leona Maguire, Celine Boutier, and Georgia Hall are all on course to represent Europe based on rankings.

US players must compete on the LPGA Tour in order to earn qualifying spots. The leading seven players on the LPGA Solheim Cup rankings earn a qualifying berth, while two players on the Women’s World Golf Rankings also earn their spot. The captain also picks three players. Stacy Lewis once again captains the USA, with Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu being the only two players to have assured their spots on the team. At present, they will be joined by Ally Ewing, Megan Khang, Andrea Lee, and Rose Zhang.

Recent Solheim Cup Results

The Solheim Cup was staged for the first time in 1990, with the event held in even years up until 2002 to avoid clashing with the Ryder Cup. However, the rescheduling of events saw the competition moved to odd years in 2003. But, it returned to an even-year schedule following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United States have been crowned champions on ten occasions, while the European team has secured success on eight occasions. You can find the most recent results for the Solheim Cup below.
