Rhett Lowder missed all of 2025. Right forearm strain in spring training. Left oblique strain later. But the 23-year-old right-hander looked like he never left when he returned to the mound this season. Two starts. Eleven innings. Two runs allowed. 1.64 ERA. Against Texas on Saturday, Lowder threw six scoreless innings. Allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four.
The Reds are hitting .209 with 11 home runs. Sal Stewart leads the team at .366. Elly De La Cruz has three homers and six RBI while hitting .234. Eugenio Suarez has eight RBI despite a .222 average.
Max Meyer was the third overall pick in the 2020 draft from Minnesota. He is known for his slider. His slider induced whiffs at a 42.4 percent rate last year. On April 21, 2025, he struck out 14 Reds batters in six shutout innings. This year? Two starts. 9.2 innings. 4.66 ERA. Eleven strikeouts and five walks. Still finding his rhythm.
Miami is hitting .262 with 10 home runs. Xavier Edwards is on fire at .400. Liam Hicks has three homers and 13 RBI while hitting .323. Jesus Sanchez is batting .462 with a .692 slugging percentage.
The Marlins won yesterday to cut the series deficit to 2-1, but their pitching matchup is shaky. Meyer can be brilliant or he can be wild. Lowder has been nothing but brilliant.Take the underdog with the better pitcher.
