The eyes of the racing world will be on the Middle East this weekend, as a small but high-quality field contests the 2026 G1 Dubai World Cup. A distance of 2,000 metres (1 ¼ miles) is covered in the race, with a staggering $12 million purse being up for grabs.

The star attraction for many this weekend is the Yoshito Yahagi-trained Forever Young. The five-year-old is the best dirt horse on the planet, having won the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at the end of last season in stunning fashion when besting American rivals Sierra Leone and Fierceness.

Picked up where he left off on his return when beating the talented Nysos in the G1 Saudi Cup. However, Forever Young was beaten at a shot price in this race 12 months ago when third behind Hit Show.

The Brad Cox raider once again re-opposes this weekend. The six-year-old has won eleven from 23 starts, and was an eye-catching winner on his return last month at Fair Grounds when landing the G3 Mineshaft.

British raider Meydaan is an interesting contender for the Simon & Ed Crisford yard this Saturday. The five-year-old has won two from three starts on the all-weather, and excelled over course and distance last month when beating Walk Of Stars by nearly six lengths in the G2 Al Maktoum Classic.

Steven Asmussen also sends a runner to Meydan this weekend, with Jose Ortiz booked aboard Magnitude. The progressive four-year-old beat Hit Show in the G2 Clark Stakes last year, and easily landed the G3 Razorback Handicap on his previous outing.

Imperial Emperor is another of the former course and distance winners in this field. The six-year-old returned to action at the end of January when beating the re-opposing Tumbarumba in Group One company. Excels over this trip, and could be an interesting angle for Exotics.

Dubai World Cup Picks

Forever Young is clearly the class angle based on his wins in Grade One company. He is the top choice. However, at a massive price, Heart Of Honor could be very interesting in exotics.

The four-year-old has underperformed on two efforts this season, but his late finishing speed was eye-catching 12 months ago when only narrowly denied by Admire Daytona in the G1 UAE Derby. Could run a big race at odds of +6000.
