Preparations ahead of the 2026 World Cup continue for Jesse Marsch’s Canada this weekend, as the national team host Iceland in Toronto.
Canada have failed to win in three of their last four internationals, and scoring goals has been a major challenge. However, they will likely be heavily favored to overcome an Iceland team that have lost three of their last five.
There is just under three months to go before Canada open their FIFA World Cup campaign in Toronto. Therefore, the March internationals will be crucial for Jesse Marsch in helping to fine-tune his tactics.
Canada’s form has largely been reliable since the start of 2025, avoiding defeat in regulation time in 12 of their last 13. However, offensive issues have hindered their progress, failing to score in three of their last four.
Canada at least snapped that sequence in the November international break, registering a 2-0 win against Venezuela. Cyle Larin and Jonathan David will lead the line on Saturday, with the strikers scoring a combined total of 67 international goals.

Iceland will not be involved in this summer’s World Cup, meaning that their three internationals before the summer will be all about building momentum ahead of the Nations League.
They have struggled for high-quality performances since the start of 2025, losing each of their last two without scoring, and winning just once in their last six.
However, despite being below the level that they were during the 2010s, Iceland have still shown their quality in one-off fixtures, fighting to a 2-2 home draw against France in October. Their defensive style will prove challenging to break down for Canada on Saturday.

Canada’s attacking issues will be evident this weekend against a defensive-minded rival. However, with home advantage behind them, we expect Marsch’s side to record a second straight win without conceding.
