Event Preview
A final opportunity for players to fine-tune their game before the start of The Masters is set for this weekend, as the Houston Open is staged in Texas. A high-quality field will compete across 7,432 yards at the Memorial Park Golf Course, with the players competing for their share of the $9 million purse.
All eyes will be on Scottie Scheffler this weekend, as the world number bids to bounce back. Scheffler has failed to finish in the top ten on his last three starts. However, his record at this event deserves major respect, having finished as the runner-up on three occasions since 2022.
Brooks Koepka looked back to his best in last weekend’s Valspar Championship. He has finished in the top 20 on his last three starts, and everything points to the American building momentum. Chris Gotterup should also be respected, finishing T18 at the event 12 months ago.
Min Woo Lee is the defending champion, setting an aggregate record in the event 12 months ago. Stephan Jager is also a former champion worth considering, finishing T9 and T11 on two further efforts at the Houston Open.
Houston Open Picks
Scheffler’s recent performances make him a dangerous favorite. Therefore, Gary Woodland could be a fascinating contender. Woodland finished T14 last weekend, and has thrived on previous appearances at the course, claiming T9, T21, and T2 on his last three efforts.
