Rapids Aiming to Improve on First Win

Matt Wells will take positives from the start to the season enjoyed by the Colorado Rapids, and they were good value for a first win of the campaign last time out.

The Rapids controlled the ball in the 2-0 win over Portland last weekend, with Hamzat Ojediran opening the scoring inside the opening ten minutes. Lucas Herrington made sure of the win early in the second period. Eye-catchingly, the Rapids registered 25 shots in the victory, showing their dominance over the Timbers.

An offensive spark has been evident in their opening two fixtures, averaging an xG of 1.75. Clear progress has been made under Wells, and they could have ambitions of a playoff spot in 2026.

Galaxy Showing Signs of a Comeback

After a disappointing 2025 season, there have been clear positives to take from the LA Galaxy’s start to the campaign.

Greg Vanney’s side showed character on the opening day to play out a 1-1 draw against NYC despite playing with ten men, while they recorded a first win of the season last time out when easily overcoming Charlotte.

Joao Klauss made an immediate impression following his move during the off-season, scoring twice in his home debut. The Galaxy dominated and controlled the ball, and their efficiency in front of goal was eye-catching after hitting the target with 12 of their 14 shots.

(4-3-3) Micovic (GK); Yamane, Yoshida, Glesnes, Aude; Wynder, Sanabria, Cerrillo; Pec, Klauss, Paintsil

Based on the efficiency shown by both of these sides last weekend, this could be a high-scoring affair. However, the preference is for the red-hot Galaxy to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign and win for the second time in three outings.
