San Diego Thriving in Final Third

Mikey Varas’ San Diego made a host of MLS history in their first campaign in 2025, but their historic push ended early in the playoffs. They will be aiming to go closer to glory in 2026, and the early signs are incredibly promising.

After recording a statement win over Mexican club Pumas UNAM in the Champions League, they dominated from start to finish in their MLS opener against Montreal, eventually recording a 5-0 win.

Christopher McVey, Onni Valakari, and Marcus Ingvartsen all scored in the success, as San Diego showed incredible efficiency, scoring with five of their six shots on target.

St. Louis Outsiders in the Betting

Yoann Damet’s St. Louis will be the huge outsiders in the betting to cause an upset this weekend. Their performances in the MLS have dropped since topping the Western Conference in 2023, finishing a franchise-low 13th in 2025.

Joao Klauss’ departure leaves a huge hole at the top of the field, and they struggled to create many clear chances in their defensive-minded formation in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Charlotte.

Their game plan this weekend will revolve around them avoiding defeat, but their pace in the wide areas could threaten San Diego on the counter-attack.

Possible Lineup
(3-4-1-2) Burki (GK); Orozco, Polvara, Baumgartl; Wallem, Durkin, Edelman, Santos; Hartel; Jeong, Becher

San Diego vs. St. Louis Picks

San Diego’s eye-catching offensive start to the season has seen them score nine goals in three competitive fixtures. This weekend, against a defensive-minded rival with limited attacking quality, they should be capable of recording a second big win in succession.
