  • Aston Villa dropped crucial points in a 1-1 draw against Leeds on Saturday
  • Wolves denied a well-earned draw at Crystal Palace last Sunday

West Midlands rivals collide to kick off the Premier League weekend on Feb 27, as Aston Villa make the journey to local rivals Wolves.

All of the pressure will be on the visiting side, as Unai Emery’s team bid to bounce back to winning ways following a shock home draw with Leeds in their previous outing.

Wolves remain bottom of the standings, but they have shown strong character in their last two fixtures despite picking up just a single point from clashes against Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Wolves Still Fighting Despite Inevitable Relegation

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ relegation to the Championship will soon be official, but they are at least showing battle qualities under Rob Edwards.

They have avoided defeat in two of their last three, and they were cruelly denied a rare point on the road last time out against Crystal Palace. Despite that, wins on the road have been a rarity throughout the campaign, winning maximum points in just one of their 28 fixtures.

However, they have at least shown more fight in recent clashes, most notably coming back from 2-0 down to salvage a late draw against table-topping Arsenal last week. But, goals have been in incredibly short supply, netting just 0.64 per fixture in 2025-26.

Villa Losing Momentum in UCL Fight

Aston Villa appear to be crawling to the finishing line in the Premier League, having failed to win in three of their last four fixtures.

That run of form leaves them sitting third, but they now only have a six-point advantage over the side sitting in fifth. Villa’s most recent disappointment came at home to in-form Leeds, as Unai Emery’s side scored a late, fortunate equalizer.

Creating chances on the road have been an issue for Villa throughout the campaign, netting just 1.38 per game from an xG of 1.32. Meanwhile, they also give up a higher volume of chances, reflected by an xGA of 1.62.

Possible Lineup
(4-2-3-1) Martinez (GK); Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Luiz, Onana; Bailey, Rogers, Buendia; Abraham

Wolves vs. Aston Villa Picks

Wins have been incredibly hard to achieve for Wolves this term, but their recent performances do indicate that they are at least competitive. A victory on Friday would ensure that they don’t go down with the lowest points tally in EPL history, and it is worth noting that they have avoided defeat in ten of their 15 home games against Villa.
