Reading Liga MX Odds

There are three ways of presenting the Mexican soccer league odds.

To be a complete bettor, you need to know how to read all the above-mentioned. It’s not too hard to figure it out, especially because we will explain it in simple words over the next few paragraphs.

American Liga MX Odds

The synonym for American odds is moneyline.

It is basically a positive or a negative number that shows how much money you need to stake to win $100 or how much money you can earn when laying a $100 bet. Which one of these two will depend upon whether you bet on the favorite or the underdog.

After the upcoming example, everything will be much easier for you.

Bet OnMoneyline/ American Betting Odds
Club America-125
Draw+250
UNAM Pumas+300
  • The negative number marks the team with a better chance of winning. The higher the negative moneyline, the more likely it is to occur.
Also, this number shows how much you need to stake to win $100. That would be $125.
The favorite, in this case, is Club America, whose moneyline is -125.
  • The higher the positive number in the moneyline, the lower the chances are for that pick to happen.
If you were to take your chances with UNAM Pumas, +300 shows that you could earn $300 with a $100 bet.

Decimal Liga MX Odds

Liga MX betting odds can also be shown using decimal numbers. Many of you encounter these types of odds all the time because they are the most frequent on the web, and pretty much every MX sportsbook uses them as a basic display.

Here is one example:

Bet OnDecimal Betting Odds
Pachuca1.65
Draw3.10
Toluca3.00
  • First, we need to say that the closer the odds are to number 1, the bigger the favorite that team is.
Here, that would be Pachuca, and seeing them win is the most realistic full-time outcome.
  • The draw is presented with the highest number, so the prospects of seeing that are the lowest.

Unlike with the American odds, calculating the profits here is a bit different. It has two steps:

  1. Calculating the return

(We will pick Pachuca here and stake $100 on their win.)

Finding out the return is easy. You just multiply the stake with the decimal odds:

1.65 x $100= $165.

  1. Calculating the clean profits.

Then, we need to deduct the stake from the return to get a clean profit:

$165-$100=$65.

Fractional Liga MX Odds

Odds Liga MX can also be presented through fractions. Yes, this isn’t the most common way, but it is widely used, especially in the United Kingdom.

Here is an example of fractional odds.

Bet OnFractional Betting Odds
UNAM Pumas1/5
Draw3/1
Guadalajara11/2

A simple fraction is constructed from the first number numerator and the second denominator.

numerator 1/5 denominator

With UNAM Pumas, the numerator is 1, and the denominator is 5.

Where the numerator is smaller than the denominator, and their ratio is below 1, the favorite is that team, in this case, UNAM.
The lower that ratio is, the better the chances are for that bet to happen, but the profits are lower, which is logical.

The profits are calculated a bit differently here than in the previous two situations.
The stake is multiplied by the numerator, and the entire sum is later split by the denominator. Eventually, the result is a clean profit.

The formula for calculating the profits is pretty straightforward.

  • Step one: Multiply the numerator by the stakes.
  • Step two: Divide that sum by the denominator.

Here it is for UNAM. Of course, the stake is $100.

  • Step one: Multiply the numerator by the stakes.
    $100×1=$100
  • Step two: Divide that sum by the denominator.
$100/5= $20, and this is a clean profit.

Liga MX Betting Tips

Mexican teams and the championship overall are very good. Over the last few decades, they have dominated the Central and North American competitions. They know how to land a big European star. Therefore, it’s not hard to understand why this competition has fans worldwide.

After learning to read Liga MX betting odds, it is time to present a few insights specific to the league.

Apart from the usual home and away record, head-to-head results, and other statistical data, we need to mention the following two factors you must count on when deciding. They are unique and specific for Liga MX teams and games.

  • Apertura and Clausura: Do know that Liga MX has as many South American countries as two parts of the championship, Clausura and Apertura. So, teams that, for instance, won Clausura may not push that hard in Apertura, especially if they have other obligations, like playing on the international stage.
  • Altitude: Some Mexican cities are high in the mountains. The legendary Azteka Stadium is 2287 meters above the sea, while Caliente Stadium in Tijuana is 57 meters. So, take this into consideration as well, particularly when one Mexican team meets a foreign rival. Sometimes, Liga MX betting lines can look crazy because of this, and if you see something strange, you should check out this factor.
