The Mercury trailed by eight points late in the fourth before making one last furious push. Kahleah Copper hit a pair of free throws and DeWanna Bonner buried a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to two with 24.1 seconds to play. Despite the surge, Phoenix's rally ultimately fell short.
Bonner and Copper tied for team-high scoring honors, finishing with 25 apiece. Alyssa Thomas added 17 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, contributing to an offense that shot 51 percent from the floor.
Chicago looks to build on emotional win over the Aces
The Sky have won two straight following a two-game losing streak. Their recent statement win was an 84-83 victory over the Las Vegas Aces.
Sure, Chicago trailed by 10 points after three quarters, but this group refused to fold despite the double-digit deficit. A'ja Wilson's layup with 3.2 seconds left gave the Aces an 83-81 lead. But the Sky responded in dramatic fashion, as Sydney Taylor knocked down a deep 3-pointer with less than a second remaining, giving Chicago its first win against the defending champs in eight tries.
Taylor did most of the heavy lifting, putting up 29 points and accounting for five of the team's eight made 3-pointers. Natasha Cloud and DiJonai Carrington finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, rounding out a balanced supporting cast.
