It is easy to argue that Toluca are one of the leading Mexican contenders in this year’s Leagues Cup. Confidence within the camp will be high after winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup in May, and their strength was reflected in their opening Leagues Cup outing after easing to a 3-0 win over the defending champions.
The Seattle Sounders had no answer for Toluca’s vibrant and expansive attacking style of play, as the Mexicans recorded a staggering 34 shots, registering 17 on target. If anything, the 3-0 scoreline flattered the Sounders.
The dominant display would have sent shockwaves across the competition, and a second straight win would almost certainly ensure their spot in the next round of the tournament.

LAFC have been excellent since returning to action following the World Cup, as their MLS form saw them join the Vancouver Whitecaps at the top of the Western Conference standings.
However, their positive momentum was somewhat halted in their Leagues Cup opener after playing out a 1-1 draw with Guadalajara. LAFC did eventually pick up the additional point after winning on penalties, but they are now in a race to secure a top-four finish in the standings.
Denis Bouanga was once again the standout player for the Californian franchise, scoring just before the half time break to give LAFC the advantage.
Toluca were sensational in their Leagues Cup opener, and a repeat of that performance in California will make them hard to oppose. For that reason, they are the value selection when making picks on Saturday.
