The Portland Timbers have re-emerged as leading playoff contenders in the Western Conference under interim boss Jack Cassidy.
They have hit form since returning to action following the World Cup, winning two of their previous three, which included a statement 5-1 away victory against the Seattle Sounders in mid-July.
Their newfound attacking quality has been eye-catching, with nine goals scored in their previous three. It is also worth noting that the Timbers have avoided defeat in five of their last six at Providence Park.

The Seattle Sounders were largely considered to be leading contenders in the playoff race in 2026. However, their recent form is extremely poor.
The Sounders come into this weekend after losing each of their previous five, while they have won just once in their last eight.
Defensively, they have been below the standard required since returning to action, allowing nine goals in their previous three. Seattle have also failed to win in their last four matches on the road.
Based on recent form, it is incredibly challenging to foresee the Sounders ending their recent losing run. The Timbers have been excellent since the World Cup, and they have avoided defeat in four of the last five head-to-heads with Seattle.
