EPL: Man United vs. Ipswich Picks — Pressure on Red Devils to Respond Following Opening Day Defeat (Aug 30)

Analysis

Michael Carrick already has questions to answer after Man United were beaten on the opening weekend of the season. This Sunday, the Red Devils will be clear favorites at the best soccer betting sites when they host Ipswich Town. But, can the Red Devils bounce back to winning ways?

United Toothless on Opening Day

Hopes were high ahead of the start of the season, as many believed that Man United could kick on under Michael Carrick and potentially mount a title challenge.

However, any hopes of that were hit on the opening weekend, as the Red Devils were stunned against newly promoted Hull. United were toothless in the final third of the field and they struggled to deal with Hull’s prowess from set-pieces. Concerning would be the fact that United had enough of the ball to create chances, but clear openings couldn’t be fashioned.

Marcus Rashford’s return to the team was overshadowed by the defeat, and he could be handed a start on Sunday. United have added to their midfield options this week with the signing of Carlos Baleba, but the new addition isn’t set to return from injury until September.

Ipswich Targeting Back-to-Back Wins

Gary O’Neil’s Ipswich enjoyed a winning return to the Premier League on the opening day of the season, as Jack Clarke’s late winner secured a 2-1 home victory against Sunderland.

New signings caught the eye in the win, with Emersonn scoring on his Premier League debut and both Julio Enciso and Sasa Lukic ending the game with an assist apiece. It was an excellent return to the top-flight, and the additions of EPL-proven players could be a masterstroke in their bid to retain their top-flight status.

However, the Tractor Boys endured a miserable record on their travels in their previous Premier League campaign, losing ten of their 19 fixtures and conceding 2.00 goals per game.

Man United vs. Ipswich Picks

Man United and Carrick can not afford back-to-back defeats to start the new season. The Red Devils are unbeaten in seven competitive matches against Ipswich, and they have won each of the previous four at Old Trafford. A return to winning ways should be achieved at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday.
