Inter Miami will be chasing a second Leagues Cup success in three seasons in 2026, and they bounced back from a shock MLS draw with an excellent win over San Luis at Nu Stadium on Wednesday.
Lionel Messi made his first start following the World Cup, and he was back to his very best with two excellent goals in the opening 45 minutes. Telasco Segovia and Micael also netted efforts in the dominant win.
However, questions can continue to be asked of Inter’s poor defensive record, as they have now allowed ten goals in their last five competitive fixtures.

A lot of the pressure on Saturday will be on Liga MX’s Monterrey, as a defeat could potentially leave their hopes of progression in tatters.
The Mexican heavyweights were disappointingly beaten in their Leagues Cup opener on Wednesday, as they suffered a 2-1 loss against Orlando City. Monterrey struggled to create clear scoring opportunities throughout the showdown, with their only goal being scored in the final minute of second half injury time by new signing Hugo Cuypers.
Their attacking output will ensure that they will be a dangerous challenge for Inter this weekend, as the Mexicans have scored 2.00 goals per game in 2026. However, it is also worth noting that they have allowed 1.33 goals per fixture.
Monterrey’s poor defensive ability ensures that they will be vulnerable against one of the best attacking teams in the MLS this season. Messi’s return only enhances Inter’s chances, and a home victory is incredibly hard to overlook when making picks.
