Henrik Rydstrom’s Columbus Crew put an inconsistent run of form behind them in the Leagues Cup earlier this week, as they kicked off their campaign with an impressive 3-1 home win against Atlas.
The Crew dominated from the opening minute, and they were efficient in front of goal, hitting the target with all five of their efforts in 90 minutes. Cesar Ruvalcaba opened the scoring, before efforts from Sean Zawadzki and Brais Mendez secured the victory.
Columbus will once again have home field advantage on Friday, which bodes well for their chances after winning four of their nine home fixtures in 2026.

It has been a disappointing start to the Liga MX season for Pachuca, winning just once in their opening three. That patchy run of form continued when they kicked off their Leagues Cup campaign earlier this week, as they were easily beaten 3-1 by FC Cincinnati.
The match started well for the Mexican club, as Adrian Alcaraz opened the scoring in the opening ten minutes. However, their defensive limitations were exposed before the half-time break, allowing two goals.
Their wastefulness in the final third was a key concern, as Pachuca registered 18 shots, but hit the target with just seven of their efforts.
Pachuca should have the attacking quality to pose issues for the Crew this weekend, but their defensive weakness is hard to ignore. Therefore, a win for Columbus shouldn’t be overlooked when making picks.
