Fire In Action Following Cuypers Departure

The Chicago Fire bounced back to form on Saturday with an impressive 2-1 home win against Charlotte. Robert Lewandowski was the driving force in the success, netting both goals in the success.

There will be additional pressure on the striker for the remainder of the season, as the Fire have sold 13-goal striker Hugo Cuypers. His departure will limit their attacking output, with the former forward netting the majority of the goals, with the next-best leading scorer being Philip Zinckernagel with five.

Chicago’s recent win over Charlotte ended a two-game losing run, indicating a positive return to form before this clash with Necaxa.

Necaxa Chasing Response

Liga MX’s Necaxa had made a bright start to the new season after winning each of their opening two fixtures against Atlante and Monterrey. However, a below-par showing was delivered in the previous round of fixtures, as they were beaten 3-1 on the road by Toluca.

But, it is worth noting that they were reduced to nine men in that eventual defeat, ensuring that they deployed a counterattacking style of play to maximize their chances of a positive result.

The pace of Juan Pablo Torres and Julian Carranza will ensure that a similar approach will be taken this week, but after allowing five goals in their opening three, it is unlikely that they have the ability to keep a clean sheet.

Chicago Fire vs. Necaxa Picks

Necaxa’s poor defensive record is a major concern this week, which means that it could be challenging to overlook Chicago’s chances of recording a second straight win. Preference is for the Fire on Thursday.
