Schlittler Leads the AL in ERA and ERA+
Yankees righty Cam Schlittler is a Cy Young Award contender and one of MLB‘s top young pitchers. After a shaky start against the Cardinals on Aug. 3 when he surrendered 4 earned runs in 3 innings and walked an unsightly 5 batters, he’s been back to what the Yankees have come to expect. Tossing 18.1 innings, allowing 13 hits, and 3 earned runs.
For the season, he has a 5.5 bWAR, an AL-leading 2.16 ERA and 195 ERA+. Over 158 innings, he’s allowed 115 hits, 38 earned runs, and 14 homers, walking 37 and striking out 193.
New York finally has Cody Bellinger back to bolster their lineup. They are still waiting for Aaron Judge to start baseball activities and with it so late in the season, it might be best not to expect him at all.

The lefty pitched reasonably well in his last start against the Giants, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. In the start before that, the Pirates pounded him for 7 earned runs in 4 innings.
For the season, he has a -0.2 bWAR and a 4.54 ERA. In 39.2 innings, he’s allowed 52 hits, 20 earned runs, and 5 homers, walking 18 and striking out 41.

The Bombers’ hitting has been inconsistent to say the least this season. However, they have hit better recently, particularly Luis Garcia Jr. Sandoval is still trying to shake off the rust and he is doing it against a team that needs a win against Boston and a pitcher on the other side who’s been dominant.
This game will go in reality just as it looks like it will on paper with Schlittler holding down his hometown team and the Yankees knocking Sandoval around to take an easy win in the first game of their key series in Boston.
