McLean Has Been Consistently Good All Season

Nolan McLean was one of the few players on the roster the Mets refused to discuss in trades at the MLB trade deadline. He consistently gives the Mets at least 6 innings. For the season, he has a 1.9 bWAR and a 3.29 ERA. In 125.2 innings, he's allowed 96 hits, 57 earned runs, and 13 homers, walking 45 and striking out 148. He leads the majors in hit batsmen with 13.

New York is still without Juan Soto. Carson Benge and AJ Ewing are proving to be rookie keepers. Benge has a .721 OPS and 12 homers. Ewing has an OPS just shy of .730 with 14 stolen bases in 20 attempts.

For the Mets against Foster Griffin, Bo Bichette is 2 for 3 with 2 home runs. Benge is 2 for 3 with 2 singles. Marcus Semien is 1 for 2 with a single.

The Mets cleaned out their bullpen at the deadline, trading Luke Weaver, Huascar Brazoban, Brooks Raley, and A.J. Minter. They've punted the season, but the players are still putting up a fight.

The Guardians Acquired Griffin at the Deadline

Foster Griffin was having an All-Star season for the Nationals after returning from three years in Japan. He'd been a struggling journeyman before going to the Far East. This season, he posted a 3.5 bWAR and a 3.06 ERA in D.C. Over 129.1 frames, he's allowed 109 hits, 44 earned runs, and 19 homers, walking 30 and striking out 116.

This is his first start for the Guardians. His last start as a Nat was a struggle, allowing 9 hits and 6 earned runs in 5.1 innings against the Braves.

Cleveland is hoping that the acquisitions of Jo Adell and Nathaniel Lowe will wake up their flagging offense. Their team leader in homers is Kyle Manzardo with 13. Chase DeLauter and Rhys Hoskins have 12. Angel Martinez has 11. Star 3rd baseman Jose Ramirez is having a poor season with an average in the .230s and 10 homers.

The only Guardians who have faced McLean are Adell, Patrick Bailey, and Lowe. Adell is 2 for 2 with 2 singles. Bailey is 0 for 1 with a walk. Lowe is 2 for 4 with 2 doubles.

Mets vs Guardians Pick

Griffin has been very good this season, but there is a chance he is a bit too amped up for his first start with Cleveland. McLean has been excellent all season, giving the Mets 6+ innings. New York has been hitting well since the trades. Cleveland is still incorporating its new acquisitions.

New York will take this afternoon tilt behind McLean.
