A high-quality sprint race over 5 ½ furlongs is run at Saratoga this weekend, with a decent crop of fillies and mares going to post for the G2 Caress Stakes. This race has been a notable stepping stone to the Breeders’ Cup, with Caravel completing the big-race double.

Sunna will be a likely favorite for the Kent Sweezey team this weekend. The four-year-old has been impressive throughout this season, winning The Very One Stakes at Laurel Park and producing a career-best Equibase rating of 99 at Churchill Downs last time out.

In Our Time should be respected for the Saffie Joseph Jr team, with Flavien Prat booked to take the ride. The Not The Time mare has been a regular performer in high-level races, including when winning the G2 Giant’s Causeway at Keeneland in April. Proven in graded company, and that is a major plus.

Italian Soiree represents the Graham Motion yard this weekend. The Uncle Mo colt could be bred to excel over slightly further, but she could be capable of featuring this Saturday if building on her recent second in the G2 Intercontinental Stakes.

Zeitlos rounds off the likely contenders at the top of the betting. However, it would be a slight concern that the Steven Asmussen-trained runner is yet to win in four starts this season. However, she should be capable of producing a big run based on her second in this race 12 months ago.

Caress Stakes Picks

Despite being drawn widest of all, In Our Time should prove hard to beat based on her form in the book. The five-year-old produced a mighty number when winning in Grade Two company in April, and she was also second in Grade One company last season. If back at that form, she could out-class this field.
