The first of the Grade One races at Saratoga this weekend is the G1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes, run over a distance of seven furlongs. This race features arguably the best three-year-old in the United States this season, as the Englishman bids to build on his dominant win over course and distance in the G1 Woody Stephens. That is the strongest piece of form in this race, as the Cherie DeVaux runner put a dominant five-length distance between himself and the talented Crude Velocity. A standout runner over this distance, with his only defeat coming when stepped up to a mile in the G2 Pat Day Mile Stakes. The one to beat.

Personal Ensign Stakes Pick
Next up is a Grade One for the fillies and mares, run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles. Fully Subscribed and Margie’s Intention are both last-time-out winners, but Scottish Lassie could be set to reverse the form with the former. Jose Ortiz will be aboard the Jorge Abreu runner, who was last seen finishing within a length of Fully Subscribed in the G2 Shuvee Stakes. She holds excellent form over this distance, which includes an electric win in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks last year. Expected to be competitive once again with a more aggressive ride by Ortiz.

Ballerina Stakes Pick
The penultimate race before the Travers Stakes comes in the form of the G1 Ballerina Stakes. Ways And Means looks like the one to beat, but Munnings Express could be an interesting selection at the odds available for the Linda Rice yard. The four-year-old has improved with every run under rules, and she was an excellent winner last time out when streaking clear to beat the re-opposing Usha. There is a major difference between the same runners this weekend, and it could be worth taking a chance on Munnings Express, who could still be unexposed over seven furlongs.
